The Round Up

Saturday was a great, great day! We all met up at Iron Hill Newark between 12pm and 1pm where many people grabbed a nice bite to eat and a brew or two. We got on the road around 1:20pm or so. It was a great site — the Cure for What Ales You bus was packed to capacity with beer fans of all ages that were decked out in the new CFWAY T-shirts.

The Pilgrimage to Kennett

The trip to Kennett Square, PA went very smoothly and was actually pretty quick. We rolled up to Kennett High School to drop everyone off somewhere around 1:50pm. Everyone poured out of the bus and immediately took off for the huge line to get into the fest. We had some extra T’s to give away so a bunch of our buddies started handing them out to strangers — an immediate awesome start to a long afternoon of fun.

Inside the Fest

The grounds weren’t too crowded to start but filled up really fast — too fast. It got really crowded and lines for brewer’s tents got outrageous at times. Thank goodness there were some brewery reps smart enough to bring pitchers around to people waiting in their lines (Dogfish Head to be exact). Conversely, the porta-potty lines were non-existent. This was a very pleasant surprise because I distinctly remember waiting for 10 minutes to tinkle last year.

Conclusion

Overall, the Kennett Brewfest was a big hit. It seemed as though all of our group had a blast. The bus idea was a big success! The bus ride home was rowdy but good natured. We finally landed in Newark somewhere around 7pm. Upon arrival everyone dispersed pretty rapidly, probably because everyone was exhausted from day drinking.

I think the trip can be summed up best with some short phrases…

Good things:

Good brew. Good people. Good company. Good times. Great funk band (The Sin City Band). Free water. Novelty sunglasses and other merch. Awesome opportunity to bust out of your beer-drinking shell.

Bad Things:

Could use a bigger lot of land. Brewers running out of beer early. Long lines. Scarce food. Expensive food. Dry cigars.
